Does Your EVR Provider
Help Keep You Compliant?

See how a good EVR partner supports your auto
dealership compliance efforts.

Compliance has been top of mind for many of our dealerships in the past few months — especially with the recent event of Carvana's license being suspended in Illinois. The state of Illinois suspended the license of the online auto dealer after the company failed to properly transfer titles on vehicles it sold. Not only could they possibly face huge fines, they'll also lose revenue and suffer damage to their brand's reputation. It's no wonder that compliance has been a hot topic for many dealerships.

Did you know that your Electronic Vehicle Registration (EVR) provider can do much more than just provide a solution for title and registration? A good EVR provider can play a key role in keeping your dealership compliant. Here's what you should look for in an EVR provider.

A Good EVR Partner Is a Business Asset
A good partner in any business is someone who will watch your back and not just provide you with a service or solution. The best partners are those who anticipate an issue or a weakness and help prevent danger or disaster. How does this relate to your EVR provider? A good EVR provider is your partner in keeping you and your business compliant. Your EVR provider should not only provide the necessary functionality and workflow solutions you need, they should also be your extra pair of eyes and provide your employees with valuable training and advice.

Key Compliance Support Functions a Good EVR Should Offer:

  • Your provider should give you quarterly inventory audits and send reminders in advance to help you stay ahead of compliance. This can assist with counting inventory when necessary (license plate and registration stickers) and help get the correct numbers submitted to the state.
  • A good EVR partner will also help keep you compliant by notifying your management team if too much inventory (license plates and registration stickers) has been ordered or accumulated.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The location of your inventory, or how you store it, can either be in compliance or not. A good EVR provider will help provide valuable insight into how and where it should be stored.
  • Both EVR processing and correct state security training are required to maintain compliance.
  • A good EVR partner will go a step further and monitor those new (and even older) processing users and prompt yearly retraining based on accuracy performance.
  • Your EVR should keep track of your pending deals and contact you before your deals reach a certain amount of time over what the state allows.
  • PLESE NOTE: a good EVR partner will even offer to help you process those deals if the situation calls for it, to help you stay compliant.

Safeguards should be in place to ensure your systems and operations are in compliance and not allow you or your team to break the law unintentionally by:

  • Having individual logins for each user.
  • Locking and logging the user out after an amount of inactivity.
  • Disallowing software installation on laptops in states where it’s a violation.

These are the minimum requirements you should expect from your EVR partner. If they’re not providing these services, they could be putting you and your business in harm’s way.

Is Your EVR Partner Going the Extra Mile for Your Dealership?
Your EVR partner should be providing all these functions and more to help keep you compliant. Ask your provider if they have been doing these things and expect it from them, as it should be part of the service they provide.
